Coaches Code of Ethics

I hereby pledge to provide positive support, care, and encouragement for my team members participating in youth sports.As a Marion Boys Baseball coach, I therefore agree:

  •  I will provide a sports environment for my team that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and I will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.
  • I will remember that I am a youth sports coach, and that the game is for the children and not adults.
  • I will treat each player as an individual, realizing that each child will develop their skills at a different rate.
  • I will do my best to organize practices that are fun and challenging for all my players.
  • I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all my players and parents.
  • I will do my best to provide a safe playing situation for my players.
  • I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of athletes.
  • I will teach my players to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  • I will demand that my team treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect no matter what.
  • I will teach my team that doing one’s best is more important than winning.
  • I will praise my team for competing fairly and trying hard, and make my players feel like winners every time.
  • I will support other coaches and officials working with my players, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
  • I will do my very best to make sure youth sports are fun for my team and everyone involved!!
